Hello all, new guy here.

I am going to try to build my first computer for gaming, web, movies, music, etc.

But I want to ask the experts and make sure I got everything and that its all compatible.

I only have about a $550 budget so I can't get a whole lot.(I already have the monitor,case,speaker,etc.)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner.

COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro 750W PSU.

Now as for the Mother Board and RAM I need a little help picking one.

Mother Boards.

ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard.

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358

They both look like great mother boards but I can't make up my mind on which one to get

I was leaning towards the ASUS because of the Crossfire feature but GIGABYTE's website shows that this board has Crossfire to.

As of now I don't Overclock but that might change so I want a MOBO that can handle it.

RAM.

CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145043

CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000.

And as for the RAM I am leaning towards the Patriot so I can get a balance of more memory and speed.

Anyway thanks for any input.

Mike.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll swap the Seagate for the Western Digital, and I think that I will go with the Patriot RAM.

As for the Mother Board I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations as too which one I should get?Or should I just flip a coin?:P

Thanks,
Mike.

The Gigabyte board supports 16GB of memory, but the Asus one is only 8GB, it can also depend on how much memory you want to put in it. I have never owned a Gigabyte board before, but the reviews for it are 82% as apposed to 67%... go with the Gigabyte.

Well the 16Gb vs 8Gb issue won't matter at all unless he has Vista 64 Bit and even then 8 Gbs is kinda overkill. The 2 boards have the same features but the Asus is cheaper and has a much better reputation of being a solid reliable board. Just go with the Asus and you won't be sorry.

Gigabyte is a good motherboard for people who want an easier BIOS to use. ASUS boards are great boards but are very complicated in BIOS settings and how to sweak them. i would go with the gigabyte, as it is a simple motherboard, built strong, and less problematic. the UD3P is what i want to put in my future build.

Thanks everyone, I am going to get the GIGABYTE motherboard.

I got two more questions and then I'll leave y'all alone.:)

1.Can anyone confirm that the Patriot RAM will work with the GIGABYTE mobo?(I read somewhere that gigabyte mobo's can be kinda finicky about what RAM they use.)

2.I got to looking at the case I got and it is for a mini ATX so I also need to get a new case as well.

I got it narrowed down to these two.

I am pretty sure that I will get the Alpha but I was wondering if there is any reason to get the Apollo instead? better cooling, more room, etc.(I am going to a 120mm fan to the front of which ever one I get.)

I know that these are cheap case but they are all I can afford.

Thanks again.
Mike.
