first build. power issues??? i think

alright. i am now quad core. using a p5k-e mother board. asus 8600 gt 512 2 gig ram. super happy. im running two hard drives with ide and one dvd burner sata. i am using a topsilent 500 watt power surply.

PROBLEM! the problem is when i turn my pc on it stays on for 2 seconds and then turns off... any ideas? cheers!

is the cpu fan running? have you connected the 20/24 pin molex and the 4/8 pin molex to the motherboard? also make sure that your mobo is mounted properly and not touching the case

yeah cpu fan starts to run then cuts off when the power does. everything is connected. the motherboard is all connected right. i have been told something about "true power" of a power supply. would this issue happen if there wasnt enough power?
 
if the cpu fan is not the stock fan but a bigger one it could run at a slower speed causing the pc to shutdown within a second or two if that is the case you could put the stock fan on and boot into bios then turn of the function causing it to shut down.
 
What are the specifications of the power supply? Did you install the standoffs for the case? What are your computer specifications.
