First build problems

I just put together my first build with new mobo, ram,ps,cpu, video card and had it running good with a temporary 30G ATA HDD and after I knew it was gonna go good I decided to upgrade to a 250G WD SATA....But I am at witts end trying to figure out why I can't install the driver during setup with F6..The driver shows up in A but aborts with an error...
.. It just will not work...For hours I have been back and forth in the BIOS double checking, used a new driver from the mobo web site, checked settings till I'm blue in the face ....Any help plzzzzz....

well, if your trying to download the mobo drivers, you need xp or vista installed. if you did that already you shouldnt have to press f6. all you do is go to my computer and double click on the drive with the driver in it.

hmmm. try a different cable for the HD. if that doesnt work, unplug the cmos battery for about 10mins and plug it back in. try a different sata port...

thats all i got, good luck

plug the harddrive in.
turn the computer on.
touch the harddrive. does it start spinning? can u feel it vibrate?

press "del" to enter bios when you turn the computer on.

is your harddrive listed in there?

it should look something like this. but your harddrive will be there.
bios4.gif

if its not, then the harddrive or the cable connecting the harddrive, or even the port on the motherboard for the harddrive is not working.

Nope...Does not show up in the BIOS.Can it see the HDD even in a new install mobo without first installing the driver?...I think it must be the SATA port like you guys said..Tried other cables...I connected it to my other SATA computer and already formatted the drive so I know the drive is good.....

it wont need a driver.
if its not in the bios, then its either connected wrong, your using a faulty cable, or the harddrive itself is broken.
try a different sata port on the motherboard and a different cable.

Ok just got it,but I did need the F6 driver to get it going royalmarine...What the stupid problem was I didn't have the jumper set to SATA 1; its a 2nd generation WD and I had to roll it back to SATA 1...But I did'nt use the driver after I set the jumper because you said it should work anyway and it still didn't pick it up until I restarted and did the F6 driver install then baaddabing!!!! Anyway, that is what the mobo directions said to do and it finally worked, after I got the settings right...Thanks for the help!!!.
