For my first computer my goal was to build a machine that could play the games i wanted and build it for as cheaply as possible, after spending some time on newegg this is what i came up with:

motherboard: Foxconn A78AX-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - $118.99 with cpu

cpu: AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition Kuma 2.8GHz Socket AM2+ 95W - $118.99 with mobo

video card: HIS Hightech H467QT512P Radeon HD 4670 IceQ Turbo 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 - $75 plus a free game

memory: G.SKILL HK 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $50

power supply: RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W - $75

hard drive:Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s - $55

case- XION II XON-101 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450W Power Supply- $72

total= $468.70 including shipping

I'm really tempted to change out my mobo and processor for an intel board that'll support an intel e5200 because of the massive overclockableness? of it, but at the same time i really like the 2600 mhz fsb speed of the mobo i have.

If anyone has any thoughts, comments, or suggestions I'd like to hear them.

Stick with amd... but possibly go with this combo deal:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.191001

Or if you can afford some more, definately go with a tricore Phenom II like this:

Definately dont go with a raidmax psu, this is a good quality power supply:

Or a little cheaper but plenty suffecient:

This memory is a little cheaper:

Go with this gpu, price difference negligible after rebate and free shipping and will perform a heck of alot better than a 4670:

May wanna look through these cases here as they have free shipping, which itself will save you $30 or so:

If its in your budget... go with a caviar black, its quite a bit faster than an SE16 caviar:
