first build

Well

I think that it's up to you really. Both are excellent manufacturers. I would advise you to read some reviews of the processor you are getting and its AMD equivalent. However, it is still GENERALLY true that AMDs are best for gaming and Intels for multitasking. However, I will leave that up to you to decide. Either way, you will have a good PC.

P.S.: AMD's X2 line of processors is meant to compete with the Pentium Ds.

Well

The only change required would be the motherboard and the processor. Nothing else. One more thing. If I were you, I would shop around at www.ebuyer.co.uk. Their prices are generally better. However, looking at the extra price that you would have to pay for an X2, it may not be worth it.

thanks, what i do now is web browsing while listening to music on a celeron...
i do video work, but always by its self....
what i will do on the new build, video encoding while playing a older game (gta2, age of empire1, hidden and dangerous), who the pemtium d be better or a AMD rival be better for this
i would also be listing to music while playing games, what is better for this? thanks for your time

Well

The Athlon X2 - based on the review that I have posted two posts above, is a better general candidate. I would go for the X2 4200+ if you could afford to pay extra.

Lol

I see your point. In that case, I would just stay with what you have chosen. It will be a decent PC. Have you looked around for more motherboards? There could be better ones on the market from other manufacturers like MSI etc.

Yeah

Well most manufacturers will provide BIOS updates that allow for EMT64 processors and DUAL core as well. However, prior to purchasing. I would definitely look at their website or buy one that you know supports without the need of flashing the BIOS.

SLI Is when you can put two graphics cards in a mobo. and they act like one, thus increasing performance.
