First Build

Building my first desktop her! I'm getting some help from my fathers friend with getting good deals
on these parts and also some help with selecting the components themselves but I wish to have more
thoughts on the build, so I've come here to ask for your thoughts and help with the build listed below.
The parts listed below are just the main parts, I am aware that it takes many more pieces to build a pc
but my fathers friend is taking care of those parts.. :P

Just to let you know the main use of the pc will be for gaming.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Mobo : Asus P5N-32E-Sli NF680i-SLI
VGA Card : XFX 8800GTS 640MB
Memory : DDR2-800 4GB (4X1GB Patriot PC2-6400 4-4-4-12)
HD : Seagate 250GB 7200RPM 16MB HD
PSU : Antec True-Power Trio 650W
Casing : Antec Nine Hundred Gamer Case
Soundcard: Creative SB Audigy Value 7.1 PCI Sound Card
Dvd-R/RW : Asustek DRW-1814BLT 18x Lightscribe DvD Writer

Keyboard : Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard
Mouse : Razer Copperhead

One thing I'm not sure about with this build is the motherboard, I heard that the north bridges on 680i boards
get extremely hot in excess of 60C. Is this true? And if it is do you think the the Nine Hundred case with its
three fans (2 120mm and 1 200mm) will be able to cope with the heat or do I need to opt for the two additional
120mm fans? or should I settle for a 650i board?

Also a big question are the parts actually compatible with each other and will they actually work? :P
And if this actually works I will forever be indebted to you guys. :D

First of all, 4gb RAM is just too much for almost anything these days, going with 2 would be plenty for you if all you do is gaming.

I don't see any compatibility problems with this build... I'd maybe recommend a few changes...

First of all, maybe you could go with some Asus P5B mobo or Gigabyte DS3.

Then, the PSU, I'm not sure you need that much power, unless you plan on going SLI which I would not recommend at all. Maybe you could consider the Antec NeoHe 500 or 550 or the Corsair 520HX

Thanks for the suggestions you made would save me quite a bit. Maybe enough to get em a decent monitor instead of sticking to my old CRT monitor :P

Maybe I'll use the Antec True-Power Trio 550w instead and I'll defenitly look into the motherboard suggestions esp the DS3 its gonna save me a 100 bucks and I heards its a great overclocker. Thanks! :D

Also, whats the difference between the Intel P965 and an nvidia nforce 600series northbridge?

if you're planning on overclocking, maybe wait and see about the e6320 that is supposed to be coming out... right about now? :-/

and... umm.. i'm about to make my first build. what exactly do u mean by it requires more peices to build a comp??

Well you know, monitors, speakers, sleeving, additional cooling.. stuff like that.

I'm thinking about dialing down the ram and using the freed up cash to get a better sound card maybe the fatal1ty or platinum cards from creative.

definitely dial down the ram considering windows xp won't recognize 4 gbs unless you have a 64 bit version...i too was planning on getting 4 gbs until i found this out so now im just getting 2 Gbs. You could probably save some mre money too by getting an E6300 and overclocking it supposedly they're excellent overclockers if you get the right motherboard.

but u windows xp does not recognize 4gb unless like madhatter said u have 64bit 2gb is way more than enough plus with the money he saves like he said he could put it toward a new monitor and sound card

He was just saying IF you're using xp. You didn't specify what OS you were using so he said IF you were using xp, that 4 gbs wouldn't work anyway.
