Well I've started building my first desktop, and right now im in the middle of purchasing all the components. I've just purchased my motherboard (http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=p4m80-m4) and I'm wondering if it's compatible with the processor I have(Intel pentium 4 3.0ghz northwood 478 socket) I've never built a computer and am only somewhat familiar with the hardware. Any help would be much appreciated.

it looks to b the same socket, u should b good. Where did u purchase the board? Also, what r u planning to do with ur computer?

re.

I purchased it from newegg.com, they were the cheapest. I'm buying the hardware as the money comes, so every month im dedicating about 200$ to the build. But this is kinda rough of what I want to do...Im trying to be as thrifty as possible.

CPU: Intel P4 3.0 ghz

MOBO:Biostar p4m80-m4(if it is in fact compatible with the cpu)

Hard Drive: Unsure(200gb min? for big games and the sort)

Memory Modules: This im unsure of as well. I figure 1GB for now, just due to lack of funds, but as far as what brand I buy, is there a big difference in performance? Or is it generally going to be the same?

Video Card: XFX GeForce 6200 512 mb(cheap and ive heard some good things about it)

any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Ditch the 512MB 6200, and get a 256MB 6200. Not only will you save some money, but you won't notice a performance difference.

Seriously? The performance is the same? Then are they just trying to rip you off

my 2 cents on the hard drive, for the two builds i've done so far, i've used western digital hard drives, they're a big leader in the industry and the two i've gotten so far haven't let me down. I just got a 200gb. se16 sata II version from them, it's been pretty good so far, nice and fast, and only about $80, got it from newegg, you might want to look at that
