well if lights are your sort of thing that case would be OK but I wouldn't use that power supply it comes with... about the fans.. if you don't plan on overclocking and doing some extensive gaming you should be fine.. most cases come with atleast one fan, and your cpu comes with a good enough hs/fan to get ya by... The video card h linked for you also comes with a fan... as long as you get a power supply with dual fans you'll be even better off...

LCD

Acer 1914> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009043
Acer 1912> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009035

they are both great monitors... 500:1 and fast response times, 1912 is 16ms and 1914 is only 12 ms. For your computer I think the 1912 would be a better choice... just as good for what you'll be doing with it, plus it's like $10 cheaper

1. neo power is overkill for a setup like this. something like the xClio for less than half the price is more than sufficient.
2. x600 is also overkill here, onboard or x300se is plenty
3. floppy drive??!

1. do you regularly reccomend premium gaming ram for a nongaming system?
2. if you actually follow the link for the case, you'll quickly notice thats a 12v@18a pos PSU :)
3. again, do you normally reccomend a gaming videocard for a non gaming system?

@nd4spd: have a look at the top of questions101.

Two things.
1. I dont try to sound smart and/or cool
2. By "already discussed" do you mean about you suggested XMS memory and then nobody else really commented about it until I did? Nothing "smart" or "cool" about inaccurate claims

You didn't read the whole thread did you?? God I hope you didn't...
interesting how you like it when people reply when they havnt been informed...

Unfortunately you probably did...
Yeah i have an uncanny way of picking out the morons. Have a nice day.

According to your Inital Post...

According to your Inital Post... You wanted a machine for just basic day to day computer activities. Is this still the case? If so I would just go with barebones that comes with Powersupply, Case, and Motherboard. Newegg has a nice selection here...

http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Category.asp?Category=3

Then you will just need a processor, memory, harddrive, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and possibly a video card. I think Barebones would be the way to go for you since it is your first computer build.

I never saw that monarch site before, you get far cry retail free and half life 2 via stream. Im buying my mobo/cpu there tommorrow! Anyone else have a deal like that?

Sorry im off topic. But on the topic... I dont think the ram and vid card are such a bad idea. If he has the budget of 1500, and maybe "a hundred or so higher", he could easily afford the stuff and not have to regret it sometime down the road when he might use it. Plus, his dad is paying for it.... milk the parents while you can!

Praetor, do u think that the AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ is overkill or not needed for the things i use the computer for? Should i save money and get the 3800+??

mgoldb2's suggestopms were basicly good enough (with the trimings i suggested in here but i do think the machine may be overkill. you can probly get a system to suit your needs for ~$600 less

Its probably a good choice if (a) you can afford the budget and (b) dont intend to upgrade maybe for 3 years or so Byut I agree with Cromwell in that the 3800 should be more than sufficient :)
