After some research(the guides on here were very helpfull BTW ;) ) I have put together this list of parts to build the computer. I am trying to build it for gaming(nothing too serious), but have a pretty tight budget of $450.
This is what I have so far:

GIGABYTE GA-K8U-939 Socket 939 ULi M1689 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

POWERCOLOR R98E-CS3/BULK Radeon 9800SE 128MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - OEM

XION Simply 400W XON-400X ATX 301 - 400Watts Power Supply - Retail

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model VS1GBKIT400 - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3000BPBOX - Retail

Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JB 80GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM

Total: $441.25

Note: I'm planning on upgrading the video card later on. I figured that one would hold me for a while.
I already have a case and cd drivers that I plan on using.
Not planning on overclocking.

My main question is if all these components will work together.

Anyone have suggestions for better things that would still keep me in the budget?

I think you'll find that the setup you've listed will get you through but I would consider trying to get a more powerful PSU for that graphics card.
But yes, all the parts seem to be compatitable. This may be my idiotness (I know it's not a word) but are you going to buy a sound card? or have you got one already??

u dun need that much power :)
maybe, u can get 9550 and lower the power or just use 400W in ur case.
and 80GB is not enough for me maybe ur not..
mine's 200GB, maybe u can get 160GB or something, cuz
when u upgrading your comp, HD will be same so.. :D

sorry but what do you mean by 9550?

80gigs should last me a while. My last compter was 60 gigs and I used about 30 after a couple years. but that was a few years ago too... I'll try and go up to 120 or 160 gigs.
