Budget Range: 800-1000 After Rebates/Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (Dota2, Diablo3, Bf3), engineering 3D modeling, university, surfing on internet

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: All new build, except monitor/mouse/keyboard

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, windows 7 64bit

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Location: Montreal, Canada

Parts Preferences: I would like to go for AMD fx-6300 since it is cheaper than i5-3750k, so i can get a better GPU (HD 7850 or 7950). I'd prefer to get a SSD if it really improves the speed of applications, OS.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: don't know what that is..

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Read Parts preferences, i need advise on this!

Go with a i5 on that budget. If it was $600, okay. But for $1000, a i5 would be fine and is much better than a fx 6300.

Sadly Windows 7 x64 pushes this a bit over your budget, but the hardware itself costs about $860.

Get windows 8, and the case is a bad decision. Its nice and all, but the source is pretty close and cheaper. That way you can afford the 7870.
 
No it's good to have a nice case, if you have a nice case you're more likely to use it for future builds.

I honestly wouldn't buy a case that is $50 or less for a build like this unless I absolutely had to.

newegg.ca to be more precise. You'll be surprised to see some price variances, and product availability... :)
Also check NCIX.com, Canadacomputers and tigerdirect.ca for price comparison.

You dont need a aftermarket cooler unless you are overclocking. If you are, get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

Agreed on the first part. If you do not plan to change voltage, then the stock cooler is far more than enough. You can even OC with it, as long as you stay at or below stock voltage.

As for what cooler to get, stay away from the 212. It is an okay cooler, but far overpriced when you look at competing coolers and their performance. Not to mention @ 4GHz stock voltage, the Intel cooler is more efficient.
