First Gaming/School Work Laptop

What's up everybody. I've been a console gamer for about 7 years and have been interested in PC gaming for quite sometime. Most of my friends have good PCs and I'd like to join them. I am looking at a computer associated major for college next year, and would like to get very nice computer. Keep in mind my school work would be programs like Java, so it's not like I'm just running MS Office but I know Java isn't hard to run.

I'm looking at the ASUS G7 series and would like to spend no more than $1500. My grandpa has the ASUS G53Jw and every time I use it I love it. I would really like to get 5-7 years out of the computer, not for just for gaming but for school work and everything else. 750GB HDD and 16Gb of memory is what I'm looking for. On XoticPC I've been able to customize it to about $1470ish or so with everything I want.

Let me know if you really think that for that price I'd be getting a quality laptop that I could hold onto for 4-5 years. I would be going into the military after college, so like I said if this thing can beast until then I'd be happy. I have the money to spend and my parents would kick in some money since this would be my college laptop. I'd like a decision by May.. Thanks!

***When I'm older I'd pick up a desktop but for now a desktop is out of the question.
