So after 7 years of nothing but CRT monitors I now have a Samsung 931BF TFT monitor with a 2000 : 1 contrast ratio. I love it but it seems to be so intense even with the brightness set at 40. I'm just wondering if its just me and if I will get used to this or is the monitor just way to bright?

well, to be technically correct, brightness has nothing to do with the contrast ratio, obviously that relates tot he contrast of the screen.... the brightness rating, which should be a number like 500 cd/m2 is the level of brightness it can achieve.

Also, i hate to be picky, but were did you get your specifications from, i went straight to the source, the Samsung site - http://www.samsung.com/nz/products/monitors/tft/931bf.asp

They quote the specs as:

Pixel Pitch (㎜): 0.294

The brightness, is a pretty standard 300cd/m2 and the contrast is nowhere near the whopping 2000:1 you quoted, its 700:1 again, this is fairly standard.

So no, this monitor will not be abnormally bright, there is nothing strange about it, must be your eyes.

Well on the box it says 2000 : 1 so thats where I got it from. Good to know its an average monitor though, hopefully I'll be used to it in a few days.
