First post...just built a amd 2600 system and it's running HOT please help!

I still think 46 is a high temp...

When I inserted my 2400+ (used Silicone Paste, came with AMD HSF already) it came up at 32C max. I often see it running at 28C too.

But anyway, glad that it is down to an acceptable speed.

Well..

I have to disagree...46 is SAFE and pretty good. I have about 42 on an Athlon XP 1800+ overclocked to the 2400+. However, they burn out at 85 Celsisus so I think he is far from danger on that. There may be other reasons you have yours at 32 Celsius. Could be a worng reading :) or more likely, a better cooling solution.

JAN :D

that 3800+ is an athlon64 is it not? I think the original processor that is running in the mid 40s is an athlonXP

3800+ not 6800+ lol you know that
1. If i knew that i would have corrected you more specifically. Dont put words in my mouth
2. If you knew anything about computers you'd realize that Athlon64s arent as hot as the AthlonXPs so again, 46C snt that hot for AthlonXPs.

You are POSITIVE you have the HSF on the right way? If you flip it upside down it will still mount, but it will not make good contact with the CPU.
If you damn near break the thing ;)

the 5 is gooey and real tacky, just plain hard to work with!
Thats what makes it so great :P

pft mine idles at 42 c and I bench mark it 4-5 times (using sandra) and it gets up to 52 c so I turn it off, don't wanna kill my cpu lol
Do you even know what the A64s are rated to? (and that heat doesnt kill chips in the long run?) Or are you just the type to blindly keep the temps low? ;)

like to keep 'em low, like it or not lol

Well there's informed comments and misinformed ones. If you knew anything about AthlonXP computer's you definitely would continue that silly line of thought

why would i continue the silly line of thought if i barely know anything about the processors. and why would i make a comment in the first place...? cuz how would i know i was wrong if it was never pointed out...?

Ok i'll bite. Given that the normal operational temp of the AthlonXPs bein in the 40-50C zone .. how do you justify the stated 46C temp being too hot?
