First Time Build Prob with Video Card?

Hi

This is my first time trying to build a pc...I have purchased an ATI Radeon 9600 256 MB DDR VIVO AGP 4X/8X Video Card. I have an EliteGroup 865PE-A7 Motherboard that supports Intel Pentium 4 Processor, which is what I have installed on the motherboard.

My problem is that when I power up the computer all I get is a screen on the monitor showing a broken connection then after a few seconds the light goes to green (on the monitor) then the screen goes black.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

do you have any onboard graphics? if so you need to disable it and make sure that the init display first option is to agp.

are there any beeping noises? if so reseat both the graphics card and the ram as these will often cause problems like this.

i know it sounds obvious but check your monitor's cable also

Thanks for the reply..I know this will sound dumb but how do I know if I have any onboard graphics? And how do I make sure my init display is set to apg?
I don't have any beep codes. I have check the monitor on another computer and it comes on fine. Lost on this one and I feel like I am in way over my head.

Can your monitor plug into more than 1 port?
 
I can only plug the monitor up this video card there aren't any more hook ups for it. Also this it the type of mother board that I have ECS 865PE-A7 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 865PE ATX Intel Motherboard, Model #: 865PE-A7. I got it from new egg. This is the information for that mother board:

No, it doesnt have any onboard video. Do you know the specs of the PSU? It might not be giving the graphic card enough juice.

now that you mention there are no other vfg connectors i agree with 34erd that there may be a power supply issue here.
 
Sorry for delay in reply had family emergency. Anyway this is the power supply that I have installed on this system. POWMAX Assassin PSAS-BL ATX12V 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CB, CE, TUV, & FCC -
Model #: PSAS-BL .

i dont see the power supply being the problem here... if you still have your old graphics card lying around you could try putting that in and seeing if it makes any difference, just to check your system.
if not you could try clearing the CMOS memory to reset your motherboard's bios settings
 
I don't have anohther graphic card so I will reset the cmos memory to reset the bios settings. I'll let you know if it works out. Thanks for the help.

That did the trick. Thanks for all the help really thanks alot. I changed the pin setting on the motherboard and it fired right off like a charm. Thanks again and I hope I can help you in return one day.
