Looks like an excellent build. I would not get the sound card, though. The motherboard has integrated sound which would not be a big difference in comparing a $30 sound card.

thanks for tha avice i will remove it, and yes i did see the combo thank you,

after looking through the motherboard more carefully i noticed it said
The PCI Express x16 slots support up to PCI Express 2.0 standard when an Intel 32nm (Sandy Bridge) CPU is installed.

does that mean i cant use that graphics card becuse it has a pc3, or am i misreading/understanding something wrong?
thanks again

You have a PCI 3.0 video card.

Your motherboard has a 3.0 slot.

It will only run at 3.0 if you have the new Ivy Bridge CPUs coming out in a little bit. If you're just using a i5 2500k, it'll run at 2.0.

But, the difference in performance is only in benchmarks. You wouldn't have to worry.

But, again, you might as well wait until the new CPUs come out and see how much they are.

hello, i have completed this build changeing the 2500k for the 2550k, and after putting it all together everything seemed fine, then when playing sc2 it black screen flashed and proceeded to crash the game, a warning came up from windows saying, "driver has failed and succesfully recovered, after a couple of hours of uninstalling/installing/updateing drivers and no success, i lowered the gpu and its memory from 1100/1200 down to 1000/1000 and everything seems to work perfectly fine on max settings in game, can anyone explain what is going on? and possibly a way to operate my gpu at its normal rate again?

what is going on is the overclock was not stable. Probably too little voltage on it. But if it is running at 1000/1000 then you are fine. Its not wirth the stability issues just to get 200/100 back. That little bit wont help a great deal in most situations anyway.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...BYTE GV-R787OC-2GD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition

It says:

Core Clock: 1100MHz (Std 1000)

Weird that it is like that. I'd email gigabyte. I'm emailing them about an issue with my motherboard, and they're pretty good at responding.

From a review:

Cons: This card will not run at stock processor speeds and the sound doesn't work using HDMI out. The only way I am able to play games is by slowing down the processor by 50 MHz. I hope all of this is driver related but will not know until a new one is out. I have sent Gigabyte an E-mail about these problems but no one is available on the weekends there. For all I know I have A bad card.

Try upping the voltage a little and see if that fixes it.

they manufacture thousands of these cards on a daily basis. I doubt very seriously that they can stress test them all for hours to ensure the factory OC is stable. You may just need a tad bit more volts as was said earlier.
