Hey guys. I'm Drew. I'm new to the forum and also new to building pc's. I have a heck of a lot of questions and concerns and I figured there was no better place to come than here.

First off my budget is about 2300 tops. Ideally 2000 is where I'd like to be, but I can stretch it.

Second. The purpose of this computer is for recording and producing music. Right now I have a low grade macbook that can hardly handle my software and I need an upgrade. I put together a rig on pcpartpicker but I don't if I'm wasting money getting things I don't need. I am a big fan of gaming and would like this computer to be able to play games smoothly if possible although its not the main purpose. Also, I want to run OSX on this rig but am having a bit of trouble figuring out if that is possible. Sorry if thats a dumb question.

The last thing I have to say is that I am very anxious on the actual assembly of this machine and was wondering if there are services that can assemble it for me. Thanks for any and all help. Hope all is well. Thanks again.

(that is what I currently have)

Apple's OS X is VERY picky.

Only certain combos will work.

I've always thought about building my own Mac Pro but next actually done it due the shear price and lack of support if something goes wrong.

Here's a link to a Lifehacker article. I'm not the most helpful on this topic but it's something I've looked into and so far, this is the best guide I've seen. http://lifehacker.com/5919132/build-the-mac-pro-that-you-wish-apple-released

ADDITION: You could always drop the GPU and stick with integrated graphics since you are doing audio work.

You have a great rig set up, but it won't exactly run OS X.

Thank you so much!! That was incredibly helpful! Do my storage options contribute to the compatibility of OSX? I know off the bat that a 256GB SSD comply to all my needs

Yes..? SSD's will work with OS X as should other HDD's. It's mainly the CPU/Mobo/GPU mix that makes building an OS X rig confusing.

You shouldn't have an issue running a SDD. Welcome, by the way :)

I think, you are better off running a version of Linux or windows, better support if something goes wrong.

Second, that GPU is old, an r7 250x will serve your needs

Second, read the forum rules.
No talking about building Hackintoshes or the like

First off I'd like to say thanks for all the replies. Secondly, I'm sorry for breaking the forum rules.. should I remove this thread?

We can continue if you are okay with running Windows.

Your build is good, but for overclocking and gaming, i suggest a GTX 970, and an H100i

Cant run mac on anything thats not a mac. yes you can hack it with certain config, but it not likely it will run reliablely. Also, if anything goes wrong, no one from apple can help you.

If you need OSX, then go out and buy a mac. If your ok with windows 7 or 8, then we can talk.

First off, What games do you play AND what audio software will you use. This is very important to make sure the system is set up right.

You can save money by going with a cheaper MOBO. You can find others in the 300 range.

Also, i would prefer a usb wifi over a built in one. Make sure the sound card has everything u need since this is a sound computer.

Id also recommend a card with dual dvi for those monitors.

Please tell me what to upgrade to play most of new games comming this and the next year.

I don't have a problem running windows i'm just a bit nervous because all my music is currently on an apple machine and I really can't afford to loose it. Also the software I am/will be running is pro tools 10 and am very comfort with the interface and the experiences I've had running it on OSX. Like I said I have no problem running windows.

As for the games I'd like to play. League of legends, Counter Strike and most importantly I'd like to run Super Smash Brothers Melee net play. Those are the 3 that come to mind right off the bat, but there are others. As always thank you for your help

You shouldn't have any issues if you do the old copy and paste method to a flash drive or shared storage.

I move music back and forth between the family iMac and my laptop using a 1TB Seagate formatted to FAT32.
