first time building a comp?

Hey this is probably a very simple question, but i wanted to build my own computer and was looking at some barebones computers online, but they seem to come with everything a computer needs already. So it made me wonder what the next step is after actually physically putting together your computer is? Is it good to go or do I just need to install an operating system or what? Thanks for any help.

it seems to me like this barebone comes with everything a computer needs to run. so what is missing that i dont realize? Thanks
 
well i was lookin at spending around 800-900 nothing huge. It will be used somewhat for gaming but i wouldnt call myself a hardcore gamer, mostly this i think this would be a fun and useful ability to learn. But what i am really curious about is what happens after i put the computer together, will it just give me a blue screen or do i just put in an operating system disc and it will boot from that?
 
 
Zalman 9500 is the NOISIEST cooler you can get. Stick with the stock cooler.

For $800 I would have expected a E8400 minimum... *sigh...*
 
thanks for the advice reddevil, is the bundle from compusa not very good? i liked it cause it is SLI ready and i remember hearing that i could put two decent video cards in and it would work even better than one real expensive one. Everybody is being really helpful but i think you are misreading my question. I have found a lot of walkthroughs on how to put your computer together, but what do i do after i put it together and plug it in? Do cpu's come with operating systems preloaded on them? or do i need to buy an operating system disc? Basically i remember watching a guy build a friend a computer once and he built it in only like 30 minutes but then he spent a few hours trying to make it work (software-wise). Messing with blue screen and programming stuff. That's the part where i wouldnt have any clue what to do. thanks again for being so helpful
 
ok thank you so much. i wasnt sure what i needed to do, i think the guy i watched was getting getting fake copies of everything and that was why he was taking so long. thanks a lot for all the help though.

2x 8800GTS 320MB's will not beat a 8800GT... Double doesn't mean you double the speeds, RAM, ect...

You're better off with a single slot. Walkthroughs? Look at the top of this place... plenty.

Software problems might occur... but usually that's because of hardware problems.
