First time desktop build

This is my first time building a rig and I've been doing quite a bit of research but I would like to make sure I'm spending money in the right places. Some of the parts may or may not be right...I'm completely new at this but willing to learn!
Anyway heres my potential setup, any input is appriciated :)
I'm looking to overclock, and the rig will mostly be for 3d modeling/rendering and gaming.

Intel Core i7-2700K Sandy Bridge Quad-Core

ASUS Rampage IV Formula LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel mobo

CORSAIR H100 (or H80)

CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) (I'm guessing I might not need 16 gigs of ram but I want the computer to last me a while)

EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) HD 2560MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card (I still know next to nothing about video cards, they confuse the crap out of me.)

Corsair Obsidian Series 800D CC800DW Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD2 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

So far that's all I've really looked into, I'll be honest again and say I know very little about this sort of thing but I'm very much looking to learn. I'm sorry for my noobishness, anyway, if you have any input I would appriciate it very much, I'm looking for a good system to last me a long time, with the option of swapping out parts as needed. So if I've made any gaping mistakes I apoligize again :P

Thank you! I was unsure as to what power supply I should use so I'm glad you said something! And as far as the motherboard goes, just for the future and curiosities sake, which specs do I look at when determining if its the right socket?

Also, is 16GB good or should I go with 32GB? Money isn't too much of a concern as long as I'm getting use out of what I spend.

Thank you so much for your response!

16 will be fine with anything, 32 is a little pricey right now, at about 50 bucks a stick, whereas 4 gig sticks are about 15-20 bucks. noticed you grabbed 8 gig sticks, you could cut the price back a little by going with 4 gig dimms, and populating the entire thing with 4 gig sticks

you look at the processor and match it. The core i series like the 2700k is LGA 1155. Therefore you have to get a motherboard with LGA1155. There are only 3 major sockets that are in use right now. LGA2011, LGA1155 and AM3+. There is also FM1 for amd, but that is a niche socket.

Ah ok, that's good to know, I'll stick with the 16GB's then.

Thank you furyrosewood and wolfeking. I really appriciate it

Is there much of a performance difference between an LGA2011 socket type and an LGA1155 type? And if there is, should I consider going with the LGA2011 type? I'm sorry I'm asking some silly questions, I've just googled it and haven't been able to find a straight answer

2011 is the performance segment of intels lineup. I would go with 1155 with a Z77 chipset. That will be fine for your setup.

if your going to be gaming, stick with 1155, its cheaper, good boards for 2011 run around 300-500 dollars and processors are 300-600

Alright thank you! I will look into some different motherboards (including the reccomended one) now that I know the differences :D

I just have two more questions,

1. Will the Corsair H80 cooling system be enough for overclocking or should I go with the H100?

2. Is the video card powerful enough? I want to be able to play games at close to max settings.

H100 will be better, but you would need more fans for push pull, for simplicity id grab the h80, with ivy bridge it wont be enough, apparently at 4.7 ghz the chip is hitting 97 degrees C

I would save yourself about $100 and go with the Core i5 2550K Processor over the Core i7 2700K Quad-Core. The Core i5 2550K is a very powerful processor right now on the market.

Intel Core i5 2550K Sandy Bridge 3.4 gigahertz (3.8 gigahertz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 Quad-Core Processor - $230

I would also buy a third party heatsink as the Intel heatsinks provided are poor quality ones.

Also you forgot the Windows 7 installation disk which runs an extra $100.

Alright I think I might go with the h100 and do some research on cooling and airflow.

And to 2048megabytes, is there much of a speed difference? I don't mind the extra hundred dollars, I just don't want my graphics card to be limited by my processor, and I want to be able to have a pretty fast processing speed for rendering animations.

The 570 is a great card, and the one you chose would be good. Rather have yours than mine. More vRam so it'd perform better at high resolutions. And like said, i7 is good for 3D rendering.

H80 would be plenty for overclocking.

Alright, So I'm good on pretty much everything except the case now. I've read some reviews and I'm not sure about it yet. It seems like a great case, but i just spent a little over 3 hours looking at cases on newegg and cannot make up my mind...Any good reccomendations? I like the ones with LED's but its not a must, and a Side window is preferred.
