Fixing Problem

Lets say I build my own comp. I know I get warranty on the hardware but what if theres some other problems or I dont know the initial problem. What do you custom pc owners do to fix/diagnose the problem?

If my system still had warranty I'd give my Dealer a call and let their Technicians handle it, because I wouldnt wanna go poking around inside coz it can void the warranty. Then again, if I dont have any more warranty I'd post my problem here! :-)

If you mean virus/worms/spyware/adware/everything else than that'd be your job to diagnose it. Look it up online and find out what's going on and then remedy it. Unless of course you wanna shell out 85-100$ an hour for some computer place to fix it. If you mean a hardware problem well then, I think you answered your own question.

Well, first we diagnose the problem. Then we fix it.

I think it's safe to assume that if you succesfully build a computer, you know how to troubleshoot it (or at least have access to a computer forum - hint, hint - where someone can help you). Generally, I've found that fixing computers is easier than taking it to a shop and having them try to explain why they need to charge you an arm and a leg to do a pointless repair.

I had aheat sink come dislodged from a laptop once and the guy told me it was going to cost $800 fix 'cause i needed a new MB, and of course the new ones won't match the heatsink, so i need a new one of those too. I went and bought a $3 tube of epoxy and glued it back on....worked for another 2 years.

My girlfriends screen stopped working on her laptop and they convinced her to spend $50 on databack incase they deleted everything. IT'S NOT A HARD DRIVE PROBLEM!!!! I told her I wouldn't have even given them my HDD with the PC.

Anyways, a little off topic. Sorry. Fixing computers is easy as long as you have a basic understanding of what does what and why.

The best way to learn is by doing and by trial and error. Hopefully not serious error though. :)

ya,I volunteer at a place that builds computers... just for the chance to learn, helped me... maybe a group in your town
