I have a brand new 128gb flash drive that is causing me to loose my hair (and I don't have a lot left anyway), this drive I have formatted and it allowed me to put a couple of small things on it but while copying the files over it claimed I had a read error and now it keeps telling me the drive is write protected - there is no lock on the drive and I have looked online for a cause and found plenty of answers
Step 1: From your desktop press Win+R on your keyboard to launch Run window.
Step 2: Inside Run window type regedit and press Enter on your keyboard.
Step 3: If you got prompted by UAC click Yes.
Step 4: Inside Registry Editor window left pane follow this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrrentControlSet/Control/StorageDevicePolicies.
Step 5: Now select Storage Device Policies and inside right pane right-click on empty space, choose New ->DWORD(32 bit).
Step 6: Name it Write Protect and assign value 0.
Step 7: Click OK to save your changes and close all active windows.
Step 8: Make sure you restart your computer, so changes can take effect.
However I can follow it up to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrrentControlSet/Control
but I cannot find a storage device policies in my computers regedit, I am using 8.1
Has anyone had a similar thing happen?????
Thanks
