Flash Player doesn't work.

For some reason evertime I try to watch a video clip online that uses Flash Player it says, "You need Flash Player 8" Then when I try to download it from the Adobe website like it tells me too, it either appears to download yet doesn't work, or it doesn't download. Also, the version on the Adobe site is 9.0 where all the vid clips say I need Flash Player 8? Help Please.

Flash player versions should be backward compatible, meaning version 9 will play everything from the previous versions. I take it you're trying to install it from here (unchecking yahoo toolbar of course)? Do you get the yellow bar appearing at the top of the page?

Ok, then what should I do? Because the only time the Flash Player confirmation deal comes up is when I don't uncheck the toolbar.

When I want to install Flash player I only click on the executable icon and it installs itself (it's finished in like half a second), I don't have to click next or anything.

Try installing Shockwave player too.

When I'm on a site that runs some things using Flash Player, it ask in a blue bar at the top of my screen if I want to install it. If I say yes it pops a window open asking me if I want to install, telling me the risks, etc. If I say yes it doesn't do anything, but when I go to Add/Remove programs, it is installed there. Yet it still doesn't play anything that it couldn't before. Thus my problem, it acts like it's installed and working, but I still always see "You need Flash Player 8 to watch this".

I've seen something about turning on Java before, maybe this is my problem? If so how do I turn it on?

If you have a flash killer in your anti-malware software, you will not be able to install the player or play flash with any existing flash player. Spywareblaster is one example. If you find the culprit, turn it off, install the player. I keep my flash killer turned on and only allow flash to run if it is really necessary.

May not be the cause of your problem.

I have Spywareblaster, but flashkiller is turned off. On some sites such as youtube, it will say "you either need the newest version of flash player, or you need to turn on javascript."
