Please help put an end to my frustration:
For some inexplicable reason I am unable to load or update ‘flash player’. I see via the web that many others have the same or a very similar problem. As advised from searching the web, I have already downloaded and run the latest version of uninstall_flash_player.exe. Re-booted my system and then cleaned up my registry with Tune-up Utils 2006. Afterwards I ran install_flash_player.exe. The install program does not complain except that initially I get the message “Setup could not find your browser’s plugins directory. The program then defaults to loading at C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash but no flash9 files are put in this location. So is this the all important clue?
Flash is working perfectly on my laptop. However, when I compare the registry of my PC with my laptop many flash keys are missing from my PC’s registry. I have tried copying files from my laptop to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash on my PC but the result is still a no-go. I would suggest that despite me getting back a clean registry result, something in the registry is still killing the install and it is driving me crazy.
I am using IE 7 and the settings are such that flash would be allowed to run. However, this problem has been with me since IE 6
