I have a P4 PC that I just reinstalled and rebuilt for my dad. The mobo is a ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, I was wondering if anyone knew of a link to a reliable guide for flashing BIOS or if its even worth the risk to update. Thanks in advance.

thanks, i looked around but I cant find any notes on what each update did.

Click on the BIOS download link above; if prompted select the OS on the machine, then click BIOS History (it's next to the BIOS link).

Be aware that flashing the BIOS incorrectly can cause serious system problems. People do it wrong and do some major damage to their system. All the links below are based on my assumption that you have Windows XP. If you do not have Windows XP then go to the Asus home page and select "downloads" and enter your system information there.

I am a member of the Asus forum also....I did some research for you. You need to tell us what operating system you have also....I am guessing you have Windows XP?

Here is the link for the download page that supports your motherboard.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P4C800-E Deluxe&SLanguage=en-us

In that page you will see something like this

+ BIOS (11) [BIOS History]\
+ BIOS-Utilities (3)
+ AUDIO (3)
+ IDE (7)
+ LAN (1)
+ Utilities (4)
+ Manual (5)

Select the manual tab and download the user manual for the motherboard. In it they will have all the information and step by step guide about flashing BIOS for that motherboard.

You will also need to open the Utilities tab and download the latest BIOS flash utility. It will look like this

Version V1.01.14
Description ASUS Ai Booster Utility V1.01.14 (for Windows 2000/XP/2003)
File Size 3.17 (MBytes) 2004/12/13 update

Download from (Global) (China)

-Select global and when it's finished downloading then install the file. This is an application that will actually do the work of changing the BIOS data.

Once you have the manual and the utility installed then you need to download the actual BIOS file.
Click on + BIOS (11) [BIOS History]\ and select global again. When that is downloaded save it to a memory stick. If you have a floppy drive than you can save it to a floppy disk.

Then you just follow the step by step instructions in the manual. I have flashed Asus BIOS more times than I can count on my fingers and toes. I have complete confidence in Asus. Never had any issues, worked every time. Every time I do it....I follow the manual.

Good luck and take your time if this is your first time. :)
