I am getting into Professional Web Design, and I was talking with a Web Designer, and he said something about Flex over Adobe Flash.

While were on topic, can I get a list of the things I need to know to become a Web Designer, or at least get me on my way.

Thanks.

If Flex is like Flash, then it's not a web page editor, it's for creating multimedia/flash presentations to put ON your web page.

I would recommend doing some testing with some free sites before actually getting clients.

How long will Web Design be in demand?

Till this happens to everyone!

What was the purpose of that?

I asked how long will it be in demand. I ask cause I simply dont want to waste my time, with learning all of this, and not get hired.

Wow, I am good at being a jerk eh?

It was not my intention, I just found the pic funny!

A buddy of mine worked with a guy who quit a standard run of the mill day job to do exactly what you're looking to do, and he is raking in the money. He creates a few forms throws it up on a very cheap server and gets paid a bundle! I am not sure of the specifics (cause m buddy rambles a bit) but I could get you the specifics, on how he does it. I think that he uses linux and all open source software for everything. For every service that is offered there's usually an open source version thats as good if not better (i.e. payment/basket/account software). I'll talk to him and see if he will post up some of his knowledge for ya!

Again, I apologize if you felt I targeted you maliciously! :D

It sounds as if you don't have any web design experience. If this is the case, you will need to learn programing and code. There is alot more to building professional web sites than using "cookie cutter" programs that use pre-made templates.

I would guess that if you are looking for employment in this field you are will need atleast a two year degree.

Just my 2 cents!

P.S. Quentin, I thought the Al Gore picture was funny, and IN NO WAY was offensive. Some people need to get a sense of humor!

being a web designer is not that easy you need to actually sit down and learn, do classes etc.
you need to know codes, html, xhtml, php etc etc..
you can't just learn the basics caus eone of these days probably someone will probably give you a work which you might not be able to do due to lack of knowlwedge.
I highly suggest starting with the basics and moving on up to advance web development

Adding on to what Patrick said, were not trying to discourage you, but you can't become a professional web designer by reading some guides online. You really need to take courses where there is an instructor. The web can get you some of the basics down, but theres a lot more to becoming a web designer then knowing some HTML, it can take 2-4 years of schooling before you can really design a quality site.

I should have edited my previous posts, I am enrolling in a Web Design class, online, through my current school. Since, I can finish High School by Spring, I think the Web Design class is the same, I can finish when I need to.

I am also looking at a degree in Web Design.

I am just asking, only cause I dont want my information I learn, to be obsolete in a while.

Thanks.

If you are looking at any job in the IT field you should plan on "lifetime learning." This stuff changes so quickly that it takes a real effort to stay on top of all of the current technology.

If you want to real marketable in the web design field, you might also look into web server administration classes. The broader you knowledge base is the better job you will be able to land. $$$$$$

Hmm.
How successful would just learning basic to intermediate web design, and advertise myself as a freelance web designer that only works on those types of sites. Just for practice and experience.

Thanks.
