Floppy Discs

Can anyone advise me? I have just got a new computer. I saved all my files to floppy discs. Now, when I want to download them onto my new computer I receive the message "Can not load Word for Windows 6.0 files." Surely there must be someway of opening these files? Would appreciate help on this one.
 
What program are you using? If it's word, I thought it would open basically any .DOC file... If you can't find a converter as mentioned, OpenOffice is a great alternative that should open the file no problem...

Where can I find out about convertors as I have no idea what they are? Is there a site that sells them?
