Floppy drive makes noise on windows shutdown

When I shut down Windows XP, SP2, my floppy drive wants to continually seek until I put in a diskette. What?

Any help welcomed, Blackcap10

Do you have any antivirus software installed? If yes, uncheck your setting to scan floppies on shutdown and see if that works.
For the record, every now and then my SP1 box will just randomly try to access the floppy drive for no apparent reason. When I tried to use an HP all in one (printer/scanner/copier), trying to get it to scan would only make the floppy drive seek... seek... seek... until I would reboot! I got rid of it fast.

Were you working off a floppy disk before shutting down? Ive noticed that sometimes it will try and read the floppy during a shutdown if you were working off of one. Try putting a disk in there and shutting it down and then take it out and reboot. See if it does it again on the next shutdown.
