My daughters computer decided to play up today. when she turned it on she said that she had the message that you get when you leave a floppy disc in. There was no floppy in the drive so she rebooted the machine and got nothing. The machine appeared to run but no display, nothing. Nothing has been done to the computer, no new hardware or software (that I know of). I connected it to another monitor and still nothing. I took it into the garage and checked that the graphics card was in ok, and it was. I started the machine and every thing started to work as it should except the floppy drive. When I insert a disc into the drive and open it I get a message say that there is no disc in drive A and to insert a disc. I have tried several different discs but I still get the message. I have checked the device manager and it tells me that the drive is working ok. I have uninstalled it and re installed it but no joy. What is confusing me even more so is that I have an old floppy disc with win zip on it and the that worked fine
I could open it, install it, explore it.
Windows xp pro service pack2
pcchips mother board VT8367-8235
1.80 gig AMD Duron processor
I have tried two different floppy drives which I know are ok but I get the same result. The ribbons are definitely on the right way round on both the mother board and the back of the drive.
Any idea`s chaps and chapesses?
I have a very large hammer sat waiting to be introduced to the machine if I can`t find the reason why this is happening
, so I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks
