Folders Disappearing

Since couple of days some of my data folders are disappearing from the computer. I have checked for folders using search. I have even checked my PC for virus using AVG Free Edition (upto date). I am using Windows XP Professional SP2. What you think is the problem?
 
Maybe a virus or malware made them hidden. Check the 'show hidden folders' and uncheck "hide protected system files" in the tools>folder option>view of 'my computer'.
Do a Hijackthis scan, and post the logs.
