This problem only happened at this instance and never before.

I moved a folder from the desktop to a subfolder under c:\ now the folder neither to be found on the desktop neither on c:\

However when I do a search in windows explorer I find the files in the search result and location is displayed as desktop. When I click the files from within the search option in doesn’t open and I get the error message mentioned before.

Folders, subfolder and files disappeared after moving from desktop to c:\ drive. Can be seen in Windows explorer in original location but can't be opened.

1.) I moved a folder by using drag and drop from the desktop to a subfolder on the hard drive c:\images
2.) The folder contained 3 subfolders all containing different images
3.) After the move I logged out and logged in with a different user (user privileges)
4.) The folder that I moved was not visible in c:\images
5.) I logged out and logged back in with the first user (admin privileges)

6.) The folder was not visible anywhere

7.) Now when I do a search in windows explorer the folder and all files are found by explorer in the original location (desktop) and the images can be seen in the preview (view – Extra Large Icons) with all the information about file size, etc. I can clearly see all images.

8.) However the folder is not visible on the desktop

9.) When I try to open any folder or file I get the following error messages:

The file "c:\Users\alex\desktop\designs\images1.jpg" does not exists or cannot be read. Please check the file name and access privileges.

Other Information:

Operating System: Windows Vista

There were no errors during the move but once I drag and dropped the folder there was a window mentioning that I need administrator privileges to move the folder which I had.

Although your account is an administrator, you need to set your account to have full control.

Right click on C:\
Go to properties, then security
select Users ("username"-PC\Users)
Click Edit, select Users ("username"-PC\Users) again
and click all the checkboxes on the left.

Click apply and try again.

Thanks for the quick answer, but the problem is not to move files or with user access. This problem only happened at this instance and never before.
