Folders/Windows Explorer issues

Here's the problem:

Say that I go into My Documents, and within that folder I have several other folders. So I click on one of those folders, folder X, to open it. Now isntead of opening in the same window folder X opens in a new window. Then say there are 2 more folders inside Folder X and I open one, it then opens in another new window. This can get pretty annoying after having gone through 5 different folders.

I've gone into folder options and checked the option that says open each folder in the same window.

My guess is that it has something to do with the way a file folder opens. So I went into the Flie Types tab of Folder Options and there were two different entries there for folders. One called a File Folder and one simply called a Folder. I went into the advanced options for both and set the default to 'open'. This still didn't solve the problem, so that's why I'm here.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

it seems like that should've solved the problem.

but

you can try to click on "restore to defauult" once u open up the folder options.
save it, then open it up again, then check "open in the same window" and see if that works or helps.

I've tried every combination of opening and closing and choosing different options. I'm at a loss for solutions now. It's like Windows is just ignoring the fact that I selected "open in same window".

Is it possible that some obcure system file somehow went missing or something? A file that would tell the operating system how to open all folders in the same window?

try this..go to one of your Folder X >> Tools >> Folder Options >> Browse Folders then click 'open each window in the same window' there u can choose options.
