For a single core non-gamer

I've noticed that generally amd 64's are the way to go for most pc's but does that apply for gamers only? Would I be better off getting pentium rather then amd athlon 64 *reminder : single core* for a non-gamer, say for video editing and such? (especially when considering cost*)

Back before the Core revolution, the A64 was the best way to go for gaming and general performance. However now the Intel Core 2 Duo is better then the A64 and Pentium 4 series, by a lot.

as much as i hate to say it, it would be easist if you just went out and bought the cheapest core 2 duo. but me, i would just go with at least an amd 64 3500 or up, an amd x2 3800 or up.
