For dad... (new parts)

He's beginning to look more and more into getting a new machine. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of a good deal. He doesn't really want to spend more than about $300, but he already has a decent harddrive(120G) and some fine optical drives(120G, 40G) He doesn't mind reusing his case either. We basically just want a new motherboard, CPU, RAM(old ram is PC133) probably a PSU.

He's found some used P4 2.8GHz machines for about $280 that he really likes. He keeps saying that he gets another hardrive and all, but also used junk :P So what would you guys suggest. Either a whole system, or just what I listed above.

HEY NOW! He can't have a computer anywhere close to mine ;P LOL

I'll mention this to him next time I'm home. That list looks pretty good, but I doubt he'll go for it. He's an odd shopper :P

lol, what's he going to be using it for?

I don't know if I have on worth using in such a system...well, that coolermaster as I don't know if it's going to sell or not(will know shortly...)

As for it's useage, he does lots of video conversions to DVD and such, so intel is what I was aiming for. Onboard videos is actually desired but if not, as long as it has AGP, I'd give him my old GeForce GTS or something like that. He NEVER plays games on it or anything. Just basic web browsing, burning DVDs, and maybe some photo editing...

see? :P that was the cheapest Mobo by a trusted company... soooo.... lol but i guess you can skimp on the Ram and upgrade it to something with onboard

Actually the mobo link didn't work, it just showed me a bunch of different mobo's, so I just picked the MSI as that's what he's had. I think it was a FIC before that one that just totally died one day.
