For everyone who uses Advanced Task Killer

To everyone here on CF who uses a task manager program on your Android: it may cause problems. I was using Advanced Task Killer, and my Droid 2 would often lock up or reboot. Supposedly it has to do with the fact that some apps tell other apps to stay open, and when you end them prematurely, they just have to reopen again. Also, Android apparently just closes apps automatically when it needs more memory. It's all explained here:

I only just uninstalled it yesterday, so I don't know for sure if my random reboots have stopped yet. I think this might have fixed the problem, though.

Hm I use it and it doesn't cause any lockups. Then again i'm using the Droid Eris.
Yeah, it doesn't always necessarily cause problems, but I've actually noticed a bit of a speed improvement since I've uninstalled it (or I could just be making myself think that :)).

I've been using ATK since I got my Droid X and read that the Android OS manages apps so ATK wasn't needed. I stopped using it and then my phone seemed bogged down all the time. Re-installed ATK and have been happy ever since. Even works fine with the new OS upgrade (Android 2.3.3) that Verizon just released for the Droid phones.

Maybe it's a Froyo-specific thing? I was only getting problems before I installed the Froyo version of ATK, but I uninstalled it after I read the article. Anyone here know if the Android version matters for ATK?

I thought it was common knowledge that task killers set to automatically kill tasks f***s things up..technically speaking.

On the other hand, task managers, not set to kill tasks and governed by the user who in turn kills only when needed, are totally fine.

The issue is tasks being killed before they are finished processing, especially repeatedly, can make things go awry.
