For The Laptop People

Hey there guys/girls,
Well, I've already bought this laptop from Tigerdirect.com, which should be here in a couple of days.
I was wondering how does this laptop stack up to my desktop in comparison?

My Desktop

* Proc: AMD Athlon 64 3400+
* GPU: ATI X800 Pro @ 256
* Memory: 1024mb generic ddr ram
* Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 997df

The Laptop

* Proc: Amd 64 X2 TL-52 Dual Core
* GPU: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
* Memory: 2048mb DDR2
* Monitor: 15.4-inch WXGA TFT LCD

Now, I'd like to have this laptop mainly for college, but I was wondering if it is able to play a few retail games on the side although it's slacking on GPU power.
For all these questions, let me start off by saying this is my first laptop.
I have always been a desktop person, and am not too familiar with the laptop hardware.

Thank's a lot

Oh, and if you want the link to the laptop for a better view on specs.

The laptop sounds pretty good, but I would have gotten a Mac. They're much more reliable than pc based laptops, and they're faster and more reliable than anything else for the price. My G4 powerbook loads up OSX in about 20 seconds. In the year and a half I've owned it, I've never had a crash or any other problems.

Yeah, I've heard mac's are great for business purposes.
I really am a fan of Windows, because I've been using the OS for many years now, and know my ins and outs.
I really liked this laptop because for 600$ it seems too good to pass up.
Plus, I really needed one as soon as possible, I'm tired of going through semesters writing pages and pages of notes by hand, and the new semester starts in about 20 days.

Thanks for the fast reply :D

Do you think I'll be able to run games on it well?

Most of the college students I know use Macs, but it's a matter of personal preference. I like windows too, but it's a system hog. Especially Vista ultimate, which uses 600 to 800Mb on my desktop and about 400Mb on my laptop, as opposed to OSX, which uses about 60Mb on a 2Gb system.
With 2gb of memory, your laptop should have no problem with anything except the really high-end games. World of Warcraft is one you could play on it, but I wouldn't try something like Battlefield 2142.
