man im getting really stressed out about this, yesterday I bought the 8800GT instead of the 8800GTS 512mb because I didnt want to wait for the 8800GTS 512mb and because I dont want to pay like 420 for it. I got my 8800GT in store for $305 in total

now look at this http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=544&card2=548

looking at gpureview the 8800GTS 512mb has a g92 core, clockspeed is better by 50mhz and memory speed by 125mhz, 40000 more operations/second, on benchmark tests the 8800GTS 512mb does better than the 8800GT by a very small amount. Did I make a bad decision buying the 8800GT?

8800GT

Max Power Draw: 105 W

Framebuffer: 256,512,1024 MB
Memory Type: GDDR3
Memory Bus Type: 64x4 (256 bit)
DirectX Compliance: 10.0

Process: 65 nm
Shader Processors: 112 (128)

when I also see this I see texture units 56(64) does that mean that it has 64 if its the 512mb model

amd 3200+
1gb ram ddr2 400

Your gonna want to be careful with that setup you got there. The 8800GT like most high end cards runs pretty hot. Couple that with its single slot cooler that doesn't perform terribly well, and your case WITHOUT any fans is something I would be very wary of.

Out of that 300$ you just spent I would have spent 10-20$ for some decent fans. Your 8800 is going to be running very hot.

And ya, your 3200+ is probably holding the 8800 back. I would have spent 40$ or so after rebate and gotten more ram, perhaps faster ram if your mobo supports it.

But before I worried about any bottlenecking I'd be getting on that no fan situation ASAP.

could you please direct me to a cooling device that would be good for my 8800GT, its just that I dont know that much about cooling

thanks for your advice I should have thought of that

Get a few normal fans that you just mount in your case, like these as well as a pci cooler, they seem to help video cards a lot...they can be found here.

will get those fans and slot coolers

but lets go back to the question, should I have waited and got a 8800GTS 512mb

" the 8800GTS 512mb does better than the 8800GT by a very small amount"

Question solved.
