Format w/ Windows XP - without screen

Hi, I've got a big problem here. Somehow I've gotten a virus that shuts off my monitor after about half a second. Not that the power breaks but the screen turns black. I need to format the computer, and since I can't see what I'm doing I need a step-by-step guide to all the buttons you need to press in order to format C. I've got Win XP installed by the way.

So could someone give me directions on exactly which button to press, one by one? It would be greatly appreaciated.

Do you have the installation disk? Just slam it in and boot up, the virus won't interfere with the setup (assuming that you reformat and do a fresh install)

Well, the problem is I can't see what I'm doing. The screen is all black :(

I need directions, what to press and in what order...

thats not a virus....thats a dead video card.
thats assuming that the monitor shuts off while the computer is still booting up.

As others have said, it's not a virus if you can't even see the POST or boot from a CD. First check to make sure that the brightness and contrast aren't turned all the way down on the monitor, if they aren't, then it's either a video card or monitor issue.

Could be some other component, too. RAM issues, blown-up PSUs/HDs (and of course fried CPUs) could also make the monitor go blank... in these cases, however, the computer wouldn't even post.

@Kakuna... does the machine POST?

@Kakuna... does the machine POST?

It was actually the screen that didn't work, we tried another one and it worked with that one. So it does POST like normal. Thanks for the help anyways!
