hey i got a new computer and want i want to do is take the c drive on this computer (old one) and formate it but keep one folder which holds all my music and put that hard drive in my new one. how can i formate my drive while keeping one folder. or is there a easery way to do what i want done
 
just burn the folder that you want to keep to a cd (or dvd if its bigger than 700mb) then format the whole hard drive. When you have the drive in your new computer and everything is up and running you can just copy the folder back off the cd/dvd onto the drive
 
Well formatting, in definition, will completely erase your hard drive. How about transferring that folder to a different HD and then formatting and moving the folder back over to the original drive?
 
i dunno if this will work, i have never tried it.

but, create a new partition enough to hold the folder and put the folder in there. then format the orignial partition you are using.
