Formating a hard drive

when I put in the cd it says no hard drives are found, I thought that was be couse its cant install windows untill its formated

Means its not detecting the drive, go into the BIOS and check if its reading it. If not change the HDD jumpers. Del or F2 usually access the BIOS on boot.

How do i know if its reading it? I had already set the cd to primary boot divice and hard drive to secondary

Got to boot priority, does it allow you to select the hdd? If so then its reading the drive. What about the jumpers?

only on jumper came with the hdd. the only way it told me to set the jumpers was to set it to sata 150. it didnt have anything about seting it to slave

Possible, if not then its the cable configuration. So you may of not plugged the cables in right. Possible the way you have the HDD plugged in on the IDE cable....difficult to know without seeing...Hope this all helps.

sata is already enabled and cable conf is correct.
When I start it up with the windows ex disk in drive it come to welcome to set up screen. When I press enter to continue with setup it states setup did not find any harddisk drives installed in your computer

Possible, though if its new not really likely...but yes it may well be.Still think it could be they way you have your hdd and optical drive connected.

Also what happens when you try and boot from disc?
