formatting a mac

can somebody please explain how i go about formatting a mac. i bought a second hand one that i want restoring to factory settings but i dont know much about macs. cheers
 
Well the operating system disk should be the restore Cd as well. So what disk do you have?
 
Insert the disk, reboot the machine and hold down the C key to boot from CD/DVD. Then just follow the onscreen instructions like you would wipe and reload any OS.

You want to pick the "erase and install" option. If you click on advanced set up you can include developer tools and third party drivers as optional installs.
