Formatting and partitioning, help!

Hi there. I am not exactly sure where this should be posted, so i'll post here.

I am going to be formatting and partitioning my computer soon, and i understand the whole formatting procedure (i've done it many times..), but i have never had a need to partition before. I am wanting to partition my hard drive so that I can run windows from one partition, while saving everything and installing everything on the other. Is this a good idea? my reasons for this is so that if i get another bad virus (which is why i'm formatting), i can just uninstall everything, and format the partition with all the saved and installed info.

If this is a good way to go, I am not sure as how to partition this way. Help would be very much appreciated! Thanks! :D

in windows xp - go to start, settings, control panel, performance and maintenance, administrative tools, computer management, then disk management on the left.

This is how you create a partition.

you'll need to resize your existing partition to make room for a 2nd. I would recommend a tool like Partition Magic to assist you. It will work in windows and it wont even require you to do a reinstallation of windows if you don't want to.

dont you get the chance to do a partition when installing windows personnaly i would buy a second hdd

yes, but if you didn't do it then, you'd have to do what is being talked about here, but during installation is the best time to do it
