Ok, I am sorry if this has ben posted already before.

I tend to have to reformat on occasion. I would like to know, if there is a way so when you have to reformat, you could save all your programs and documents.

In other words, I was wondering if I could partition a hard drive or just maybe, put the OS on a seperate hard drive, and have all my documents and programs on a seperate HD or different Partition.

Do the programs rely on the OS to be able to run?

You actually have to reinstall the programs in order for them to run properly. Most of them put files in the windows directory, registry settings, etc... The only thing you can do is reinstall everything and then image that drive to another drive. Then when you have to reformat you just reinstall from the image, you would need software to do that however.
