Formatting Question!

i am looking to defragment my harddisk and then format the rest of the disk to clear old files. is there anyway to do this?

i'm not too sure, but as far as i know, the only way to format is to format the whole drive and reinstall windows. which, depending on what you're needing, that may be the easiest solution for you anyways

Try getting bit of idea from the thread below, if you fancy formatting your hard-drive followed by re-installing the Windows.

have you tried the disk cleanup utility? it will get rid of some files on your computer such as temporary internet files and such. if you dont want to clear all of your data, i would suggest manually deleting files on you disk. i did that last night and i cleared up about 5gb in 10 mins. so it doesnt take as long as you might think unless your files are all over the place.

to access disk cleanup go to my computer->right click local disk->properties->disk cleanup. hope this helps.

Theres no point to defragment and then reformat. I would try what shupola said first.
