Forming a partition...?

Well, I just ran across Vistas so I want to dual boot it on my laptop. Currently I am running XP. I have one hard disk and it is has one partition on it for XP. I have tried a few different things like Fdisk and Swissknife and neither will make a new partition because there is already on OS on the disk. There has to be a way of making another partition. Any how-to's around?
 
Norton Partition Magic and Acronis Disk Director Suite both have the options to condense the contents of a partition into a smaller one and create a new one on which you can install an operating system. Although neither are free. :\
 
Thanks. I just downloaded and installed partitionmagic and bootmagic. Now, how do I go about installing an OS on the new partition? I have the files loaded on my computer. Do i have to burn an ISO or can I install directly to the new partition? Any pointers?
