Forum has popup wanting me to run a scan for viruses

I occasionally go to a Gardening forum when I have a question that always fools me into clicking on a button. It looks like its part of the forum notifying me that there is a private message, but a popup window tells me that there is a serious virus or malware every time I click on it and wants me to click a button to remove it.

I never click the button from the popup and the only way to get rid of it is to stop Firefox completely through the task manager. I then run my Bitdefender to scan for viruses and it never finds anything but it always scares the hell out of me.

My question is if this is on their forum or is it something on my computer? I’m not sure but I believe it only happens on Firefox and not Chrome so I’m thinking maybe it is triggered through a Firefox cookie.

I also need to know if I'm OK since I did not click on popup?

Can you link the forum you are talking about? Would like to see if I get the same thing.

OK here it is:

I had to go out for a while and had completely turned off the computer. I turned on the computer when I returned and immediately loaded up Firefox, but I had a blue screen with a lot of strange characters spread across the screen plus a smaller white window in the middle of the screen warning me of a virus with a woman's voice telling me to call a professional before I even went to the site. I was able to shut down Firefox immediately and loaded up Chrome without any problems. So I think my Firefox is jeopardized and I now want to remove it and maybe shred it with Bitdefender.

Worked fine for me. Have a feeling you have an addon or a temp file that may be causing this. Try resetting firefox. Also check your homepage in firefox to see what its set at. Try running Ccleaner. That bluescreen is a scam.

OK I opened Firefox and deleted all the history and cookies. I don't remember how to reset Firefox, but everything seems to be back to normal now. I tried to scan the Firefox directory with Bitdefender and it came back clean within a millisecond so I don't know how well that worked. I think i'm going to remove Firefox all together from my computer. It has been having a lot of trouble with failed scripts and freezing up Firefox way too much.
