Framerate Issues 8800

I recently invested in a Foxconn 8800gts 320mb, upgrading from a 7600gt.
I can currently run Oblivion at full specs (1440*900) an average frame rate of 35fps which drops to about 8fps when in a dense area of forest. The reveiws of this graphics card says that it should be getting around 61fps outdoors with 8XAA at 1280x1024

The rest of my computer is-

MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939 nForce4 DDR400 PCI-E ATX Motherboard
AMD X2 4600+
3Gb of DDR400 Pc3200 memory (2x1Gb)+(2x512mb)
Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS Platinum 7.1 Surroundsound
500W Jantech PSU
2 DVD drives
2 Hd-drives

So... Is it that the rest of my computer isnt fast enought to keep up? (Hope not). Or that the PSU isnt suplying enough power to keep the frame rates up?

Or something else completely:confused:(like oblivion eating graphics cards?)

Thanks

Dave

cpu, ram, psu depending on amps. the review rig probably running a core 2 duo instead of a x2 and the parts maybe higher end than what you have.

I dont think the cpu is the bottleneck, do you have the full specs on the power supply? Also make sure you have the right drivers installed

I'm running XP home. The loading screens take aprox 3-5 seconds.

So generally your recommending a new processor and/or PSU?
Sadly I'm pretty poor at the moment so for the time being I will just get a more powerful PSU. But I thought that the X2 range was meant to be good at running games and stuff?

I am now completely convinced that it is now getting enough power as when I first installed, connecting it to spare power cables, the card it would not run. Only when I gave it direct connection to the PSU would it run. Even then I had to disconnected a DVD drive

Any suggestions to what PSU to get with a budget of say £50 (+/-£10)?

These are the screen shots of oblivion with 8x AA

For some reason the framerate really suffers when I meet something like a wolf and never really recovers if i stay in the same place

It's not the CPU, if you could tell us how many amps are on your 12+ rails we could help you better. It will be on the side of your PSU.

This is a picture of the PSU. As you can see is 15A and 18A

I have a suspicious feeling that the card isn't being cooled down enough as I just downloaded a temperature monitor which gave me a RED while playing a game (70+ degrees Celsius)
and yellow while just sitting there, as you can see in the pic. The funny thing is that i have the case cooled with about 5 fans, sitting next to a window with a cool breeze blowing into it, but the temperature just keeps on creeping up. Also notice that I have no control over the fan?

I cannot see the underneath of the card to check whether the fan is running:mad:.

I wouldnt blame his CPU...Its fine.
Possibly the GPU is overheating. I run fine with my specs in my sig. Your PC is clean, right?
