Frames per second......normal?

I am new to the program fraps. I am playing oblivion on very high settings and most of the time I get 75 frames per second and sometimes it goes down to 30.

Is this normal, should I be getting more? I am new to the whole frames per second thing so any education on this I would appreciate.

I have a 7900GTX. :)

When does it go down to 30? If it is during scenes where a whole bunch of stuff is going on, like fighting, then that is normal.

yeah it is during intense video scenes on Oblivian, where a lot of stuff is going on at once. But it doesnt go down to 30 very often.

Come to think of it, it went down to 30 after I first loaded a game a couple of times when nothing was going on.

My windows XP takes a long time to load also...................I hope I dont have to update drivers because I have no idea how to do all of that......

Yea, thats normal. To get better performance, there are a few things to do.
Defragment
Remove spyware/adware
Clean up your hard drive.

Also, certain antivirus can really bog down your system. If you need any help getting your computer back up to speed, i can help you if you want.

To make windows load faster go into the start menu, run, and type msconfig
Under the startup tab, deselect anything you dont need running. Leave things like nvidia support, mouse drivers etc...

I did the msconfig thing. windows messenger, for some reason, keeps checking itself to load on startup although I uncheck it.

Also, disk defragment is being a b!tc$$$$.............it made me run chkdsk before using it, time to restart my pc and try again.

I keep trying to defragment my C: drive (internal SATA hard drive) but every time I try an error message comes up saying "defragmentation of (C:) has been aborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in the file system. Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair these inconsistencies, then run disk defragmenter again."

I ran chkdsk, then ran defragmenter, still same message...........

How do I run SCANDISK?
