Fraternity House/Small Business Access Point

Alright, I am in charge of redoing the whole network in our house.

Our house is about 80ft wide by 60ft long 2 stories, and made of concrete blocks (great for drunk college students but bad for wifi)

we have a 50 connection commercial grade router and all the switches and racks and everything. We just need a commercial grade wireless access point(not a router). we have a lot of guys do homework in our upstairs lobby(about 30X40ft center of house) and at one time can have about 10+ working, plus extra people in their rooms that would like to draw off of the house wifi. We need a wireless access point that can handle a large a mount of connections without kicking anyone off or resetting. It also HAS to be an access point because we already have a router and want anyone tuned into the wifi be able to access the network that is set up through the router (several guys in the house share their music and movies)

we are currently looking at this to buy

but we would like some extra input on what to buy

i only have about couple days after this post so i need some comments asap

As long as you have some wired connections through out the house just pick up some decent routers such as Linksys (Linksys is Cisco's consumer line) and scatter them through the house to ensure good coverage where the walls might block the signal. Just be sure to disable DHCP on each one or you'll have some real problems after a little while. Also, it's much easier to use the same password for each one. I've done this several times and it works great for minimal cost and the best thing, when someone tips a beer over on a router/access point and fries it, you just run down to the office supply store and pick another one up. No waiting a week with no internet for one to be shipped.

I reread your post. For wiring you need to go modem--existing router--switch--additional routers used as access points w/DHCP disabled

this is what you need to get, attaches to your router, 1 watt, will be able to pickup throughout the house and maybe outside. You will have to get the cables made, any ham radio shop or someone on campus with micro wave experience can do it...this is worth the trouble...take my word for it ...all the other boosters are only a 1/5 to a 1/3 of a watt and will never work right. see link

I bought one of these and they are great..

guys im not talking about covering the whole house in wife, i want the best access point that can handle a lot of clients at once, and we have the know how so we want to do it the professional way so if we do do several acess points then we want it 1 big wifi, not several with the same name (dont want computers changing back and forth when in the middle of 2 wifi spots)

do you have a wireless router or one access point...the booster that I gave you the link for, you remove the antenna from your wireless router or access point , the booster connects to the output where the antenna goes, then you put the antenna on the port out on the booster. I have done ressidential home and small business...you will just waist time with commercial range extenders...if you have mutiple access points you will have to run cat5 to them...with this booster you can have it right next to your equipment...you can reposition the antenna IF you want with runs of LMR195 coax.
