i got quake 4 for xmas, and it won't play on my machine. i think it's because of a virtual dvd drive that's listed in my computer. i've uninstalled every program i can think of that could've put it there. nero 7, daemon tools, etc., but it won't go away. i've uninstalled the driver for it, but t reappears after restarting.

i don't wanna reinstall windows just to play this game. what can i do to get rid of this thing? is there a way i can find out what program put it there?

I dont understand what u trying to say. If you just play it throught dvd drive it wouldn't have any connection between it and ur virtual drive. unless u r playing it through the virtual dvd drive. Maybe u should give us more detail on the problem.

i've uninstalled every program that has to do with dvd's. yes, alcoholer120 too. half my programs are gone, but the virtual drive is still there.

the security feature in the game do not allow it to run if you have virtual drives installed. i guess they are trying to thwart downloading and playing illegally from your hard drive. i have a legal copy, but this virtual drive is stopping me from playing.

any program out there that will tell me what program installed this virtual drive?

deactivating or uninstalling the drive doesn't work. it just reappears after restarting.

if i knew which program to go into to disable the drive, i wouldn't be having this problem. i need to find out what program put it there.

You obviously have software on your pc still that has a virtual drive. Go into Add/remove programs and look at all the software on your PC.

i have done that as well, and there's nothing left in the list that looks like it could be causing this.
