Free ad blocking software

Hi, folks

Can anyone please suggest a free and safe ad blocking tool?
I've looked at one or two but the reviews suggested they were not safe
to use.

Got anti virus already so it's just something additional to stop (hopefully) irritating ads.

Noticed there is one claiming it blocks Youtube ads anyone know of such a beast?
