I am trying to install FreeDos on an XP system so I can play an old game.
I cannot play this game on Dosbox; I have tried and tweaked every setting from cycles to turning off sound. The game runs too slow to be enjoyed.
I have XP and would like to play via FreeDos but can't get the install to complete. I have been trying to install FreeDos for a couple of hours to no avail.
I am following directions off this site:
http://marc.herbert.free.fr/linux/freedos_no_removable.html
This is the part I don't get at all. Basically I install freedos according to instructions, then it gives me a message "done installing this disk series" and asks me to insert any other disks I have. I hit enter and the box closes. I never get a chance to do this part of the instructions from the site I'm using:
"The final step of the installation makes the FreeDOS partition bootable and is normally performed by the script F:\FDOS\POSTINST.BAT. Do not launch this script, since it assumes that you want to install FreeDOS to C: Instead, use the following commands:
F:
cd FDOS
bin\sys F: C:\FDOSBOOT.BIN BOOTONLY
copy BIN\KERNEL32.SYS F:\KERNEL.SYS
cd NLS
set lang=EN
makecmd
copy COMMAND.COM F:\
